Guided Walk @ Stainforth (Salmon Run)

Join us this October to witness the majestic salmon run at Stainforth. This awe-inspiring annual migration sees Atlantic salmon returning from the ocean to their birthplace in the rivers, overcoming numerous challenges to complete their lifecycle.

Setting off on our 5-mile walk, stopping at Catrigg Force to admire the stunning waterfall. From there, we'll continue through the Yorkshire Dales hills until we reach the River Ribble. Following the river upstream, our final destination will be Stainforth Force, where we can watch salmon jumping, enjoy lunch, and listen to a brief talk about the salmon run.

Location: Meeting at Stainforth Car Park (pay and display) at 10 am. The car park is not particularly large, so if possible please car share.

Details: Please note this is a 5-mile walk with steep inclines, specifically at the start for approximately a mile to Catrigg Force. The terrain can be uneven, with high stone stiles, a steep descent, stepping stones, and a small stream crossing. We will also be passing through fields with sheep and cows in. The walk is not suitable for young children, those with difficulty walking long distances, or individuals who are unsteady on their feet.

What to bring:  Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather, as well as suitable footwear like walking boots, walking trainers, or wellies. To help reduce the risk of bites, cuts and stings we also require volunteers to wear long sleeved tops and trousers. Please also bring refreshments such as water, and some lunch, we will find a nice spot to stop and eat.

Facilities: There are toilets at the starting point within the car park.
