Historic Boat and Canal Experience
An opportunity to learn more about the history of the canal in Rickmansworth, to visit our historic wooden narrowboat ‘The Roger’ and learn about life on a canal boat.
Dates: Sunday 7th June; 5th July; 2nd August
Times: 10.30 am and 2:00 pm
Cost: £20
The whole experience will last around 1 1/2 hours and during the afternoon you will have a guided tour of the historic site at Batchworth Lock; a visit to the boatsman cabin on Roger to learn how families lived on the canals and a talk about the history of Roger, one of the only remaining wooden narrowboats in use today.
Afterwards you will have an hour long boat ride on 'Roger', going up through Batchworth Lock, turning below Lot Mead lock and returning to Batchworth. If you wish you will be able to help work the lock. Please note, however, that Roger does not have a covered seating area, so if it is raining we will use our trip boat, Spirit.
Tea/coffee and biscuits are included and will be available for you to enjoy during the trip.
