After receiving excellent feedback from previous sessions, we’re pleased to announce Joe Hogan will be kicking off our first Sport Welfare Forum!
Joe is Newcastle’s Prevent Coordinator and will inform us of our local Prevent strategy through this insightful training, using real life examples from Newcastle and surrounding areas to relay key messages.
You may be wondering how this relates to safeguarding in sport. Our sports volunteers (coaches and club welfare officers), parents/ carers and participants are the eyes and ears on the ground and are often the best placed to recognise when something isn’t quite right.
Radicalisation happens offline and online. Anyone can be a target. Would you know how to spot the signs of radicalisation? Would you know what to do next?
Prevent is part of the government’s CONTEST Strategy and the aim of Prevent is to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This virtual event is for anyone involved in sports clubs, organisations or activity providers with a safeguarding responsibility for young people and adults and will cover the following:
- What are extremist ideologies, radicalisation and terrorism?
- How can safeguarding support individuals away from supporting terrorism and extremist ideologies?
- How radicalisation occurs and what are the signs?
- What is my role in safeguarding and what support is there?
This is a FREE workshop and please click ‘SELECT TICKETS’ to register your place. You will be sent the online link ahead of the session.
This event has been organised as part of the support offer for sports clubs and organisations through the Sport Welfare Officer network.
