Step Outdoors Stay and Play

FREE Step Outdoors Stay & Play Sessions for Neonatal families!

We know from speaking with our regional neonatal network family engagement lead that often families who have had a neonatal stay* prefer activity groups for their little ones where they can meet with other families who have had similar experiences. We also know that children born early or in neonatal care can sometimes have difficulties with attention and regulation and that nature based play can support this. Our Step Outdoors programme provides opportunities for young children to build independence, confidence, problem-solving abilities and healthy, active habits — all while having fun and enjoying the outdoors.

Come and join us for:

• FREE, fun, inclusive activities for children under 5 and their parents/carers

• Exciting outdoor play opportunities

• Free tea and coffee

• Meet other local neonatal families

The sessions will be held on Monday mornings 10:00 – 11:30 on the following dates:

• Monday 7^th September

• Monday 14^th September

• Monday 21^st September

• Monday 28^th September

• Monday 5^th October

• Monday 12^th October

• Monday 19^th October

• Monday 26^th October
  

Important information:

Our step outdoors sessions are child led, messy play style sessions, giving space and time for children and their families to play outside together, supporting bonding, learning and development.

Sanitising/cleaning equipment will be provided, but families worried about infection may prefer not to attend. 

Please be aware there are no toilets/changing facilities on site.

*These sessions are for children under 5 who must be accompanied by an adult, older siblings are welcome.

*You may have had a stay on a neonatal or transitional care unit if your baby was born early, poorly or needed a bit of extra medical support after birth. Your neonatal stay might have been 24 hours or 24 weeks, everyone is welcome!
