RISE Travel Institute

RISE Travel Institute is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to create a just and equitable world through travel education. Our online curriculum features the award-winning Flagship Certificate Program in Sustainability and Anti-Oppression, a Carbon Literacy and Climate Justice Workshop for travel and tourism professionals, and a new study abroad pre-departure program set to launch in 2026. We also offer place-based and topic-specific short courses on sustainability and ethics of travel, complemented by free resources including a blog, podcast, ebook, toolkits, and a newsletter. Through conferences, webinars, documentary screenings, and other events, we hold space for critical conversations around travel, justice, and migration. Beyond the virtual realm, we connect our Flagship alumni to real-world conscious travel experiences through our annual Experiential Journeys. All our programs are rooted in a systems perspective and decolonial principles, designed to deepen engagement with sustainability and justice issues.

Our goal is to inspire mindsets and behaviors that prioritize equity, inclusion, and justice for host communities. We envision a future where responsible, impactful, and sustainable travel uplifts local communities and safeguards ecosystems—making this vision the standard worldwide.
