Rising Tide: Forging a Land-Based Practice in a Time of Collapse

On March 26, we are delighted to welcome Charlotte Du Cann as our guest presenter for the Rising Tide series. She is a writer, editor and co-director of the Dark Mountain Project who for a long times has seen a civilisational wobble coming. Charlotte teaches ensemble creative practice and lives on the wild salty edge of East Anglia. In this session, she will guide us through land-based observations and creative practices -- engaging with a local territory and its elements, creatures, plants ... we will also tune into the time of spring equinox, an occasion for celebration even at a time in which seasons are losing their regularity. Charlotte's practice is a testimony to how a connection to what's 'out there' nested in the grass, hurtling through the stars, making the leaves fall and the flowers bloom is indispensable to what's going in among and within each of us.

These are times of crisis and possibilities: we need to find a sense of meaning and direction for ourselves, in our communities, and as part of a larger movement. We are gathering online to meet others who are seeking inner and outer resilience in these times, and want to share in a wider effort to convene and build community in the UK. Each month, we have a guest presenter who will offer us insights and guide us in a process, followed by time for discussion as a group.

In order to deeper in the 90 minutes we have together, we usually ask our presenter to share some brief exercises and materials that we can start pondering with. In this case, we invite you to...

• Choose a territory you will be working with in different ways during the session. This can be any wild or feral place that is near where you live. Do make time to 'walk the bounds' in the spirit of greeting and find a natural object from this territory to introduce yourself.
