"Wherever / we protest / we will go planting"
– Muriel Rukeyser (from Out of Silence, Selected Poems)
Writing poetry is an excellent way to voice our concerns about the world. Poetic exploration as a path to gemilut hasadim (acts of lovingkindness) is our aim in this three-session Immersion, open to new and experienced poets. We'll sample the wisdom and questions of Jewish poets who address such topics as social justice, diversity, climate justice and gender equity. A number of past and contemporary poets will inspire us, to name a few: Ellen Bass, Rosebud Ben-Oni, Ilya Kaminsky, Chloe Martinez, Erika Meitner, Alicia Ostriker, Grace Paley, Juliana Spahr, Adrienne Rich, sam sax, Muriel Rukeyser and Eleanor Wilner. This course offers a supportive and safe community in which to develop as writers and share.
All sessions will be recorded and sent to participants. We encourage live attendance for you to get the most out of the experience.
