Contemporary Jewish poet Yehoshua November refers in the quote above to the hasidic midrash of the “lowest realm,” which emphasizes that profound meaning can be found in moments of daily life. Careful observation of our daily moments and deep listening within can give rise to moving and authentic poetry. In this workshop, we will experiment with writing activities in order to access some of our concerns, thoughts and unique language styles. Both new and experienced poets are welcome! We will explore with a sense of curiosity and mutual support.

Cathleen Cohen was the 2019 Poet Laureate of Montgomery County, Pa. A painter, poet and teacher, she founded ArtWell’s “We the Poets” program in Philadelphia (www.theartwell.org). Her poems have appeared in Apiary, Baltimore Review, Cagibi, Chrysalis Journal, East Coast Ink, Philadelphia Stories and other journals. Her chapbook Camera Obscura was published by Moonstone Arts Press.
