What We’re Singing!

We are so excited to celebrate 40 years of the Roanoke Valley Children's Choir with this very special holiday concert! To mark the occasion, we're looking back at some of our favorite songs from the past four decades, blending nostalgic favorites with a few exciting new pieces.

A taste of what to expect from each of our choirs:

  • The Little Singers (ages 4-6): Will bring back "I'm Gonna Wrap Myself Up for Christmas", a song first performed by the RVCC in 1997.

  • The A Choir (1st-2nd grade): Will sing "The Cuckoo Carol" and "Be a Santa Claus".

  • The B Choir (3rd-5th grade): Will perform "The Snow Lay on the Ground" and "The Night Before Christmas", two songs the RVCC has sung several times over the years. The choir even performed "The Night Before Christmas" for President George H. W. Bush at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in 1989!

  • The B+ Choir (5th-9th grade): Will present "Petit Enfant", a beautiful French carol first sung by the RVCC in 1998 and revisited in 2004, 2008, and 2014.

  • The Concert Choir (8th-12th grade): Will perform a mix of new music and beloved repertoire, including the new pieces "I Wish You Christmas" and "When You Believe" from The Prince of Egypt, along with returning favorites "There Is No Rose" and "Children, Go Where I Send Thee".

The concert will also feature special guest musicians, the Roanoke Chamber Brass and flutist Julee Hickcox.

Calling all RVCC alumni! One of our favorite moments of the concert will be when we invite all choir alumni to join us on stage to sing "Christmastide", a holiday concert tradition for about 20 years. We would love to have lots of alumni join us for this special song!

We expect to sell out, so please buy your tickets early. We hope to see you there!

Ticket Prices:

  • Adult (age 13 and up): $26

  • Children (age 12 and under): $16

**All tickets are general admission, and not specifically assigned seats.

About the RVCC

The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir is a full-year choir program, for ages 6-18, that provides young singers the best place to nurture their talent by learning proper vocal technique, musical skills, and making new friends who also love to sing!

Now in its 40th year under the direction of Ms. Davidson, the RVCC has earned national recognition for choral excellence and is a highly respected arts organization in the Roanoke Valley and in the state of Virginia. Since its founding in 1987, we estimate that over 2,000+ children have participated in the choir program. The choir currently consists of 150 singers in 1st-12th grade from many schools across the Roanoke Valley.

Singing in a children’s choir can be life changing for so many children. Along with the artistic expression and musical skills, the choir program teaches confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. The culmination of these qualities leads to skilled young singers, diligent musicians, and emerging community leaders.

Recent featured performances for the RVCC Concert Choir include the 2008, 2014, and 2020 Southern Division American Choral Director Conventions, the ACDA National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2015, Festival and Solo performances in Canterbury and London in 2017 and 2024, and solo performances at Carnegie Hall in 2016 and 2022.
