You are warmly invited to an evening of thought-provoking discussion with the Rt Hon Sir Nick Clegg (Archaeology and Anthropology, 1989) and fellow Robinsonian Matt Brittin (Land Economy, 1986) at Robinson College on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, 6-8pm,

Together, Nick and Matt will explore the key themes of Nick’s new book, How to Save the Internet: The Threat to Global Connection in the Age of AI and Political Conflict (Penguin Books, 2025). In this timely and challenging new work, Nick examines where Big Tech has gone wrong and argues for bold reforms to safeguard the internet’s role in global stability. While acknowledging the urgent need for regulation, he contends that many criticisms of tech platforms are overstated, and warns that imposing national borders on the internet risks undermining its vital capacity for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, education, trade, scientific research, and human progress.

Nick brings unique insight and expertise from his time as President, Global Affairs at Meta (2018–2025) and UK Deputy Prime Minister (2010–2015), whilst Matt, until recently President, Google EMEA, draws on his experience of over 20 years in technology and media, as together they reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing the digital world today.
