Brand new for this year: Rolleston-on-Dove welcomes the Scarecrows to the Village, a fresh community event organised by Burton Explorer Scouts and proudly supported and sponsored by Rolleston Scout Group.

Registration fee: £5 per entry.

We’re calling on our creative residents to design scarecrows around this year’s theme: Nursery Rhymes and Fairy-tales. Think storybook characters, folklore and mythical creatures—fairies, dragons, princes and princesses—or any family‑friendly idea that sparks childhood memories. Display your creation outside your home and we’ll publish a trail map so everyone can follow the route and enjoy the entries. Your scarecrow can be simple, elaborate or wonderfully wacky—just make sure it reflects the theme.

There will be three prizes, chosen by our judges—the good people of Rolleston—who will pick their favourite entries.

Fundraising purpose This event raises funds to support local Scouts selected for the World Scout Jamboree 2027 in Gdańsk, Poland. The Jamboree brings together young people and volunteers from around the world to share cultures, form international friendships, and take part in an inspiring programme of activities. Proceeds from the trail will go directly towards travel, accommodation, event fees, equipment and other costs to help our Scouts attend.
