Description
WHAT IS IT?
In one word: fun. Camping in a big meadow with other families. Dancing for those who love dancing. A chance for adults to dance 5 Rhythms together in nearby halls while others pool childcare. A chance for parents to dance with their children. A chance for children to dance with each other. For those in your group who are just not into dancing there will be plenty of other fun things to do - yoga for adults and kids, stories, art, games and fireside fun. Welcome contribution and participation so anyone can feel free to offer and share their ideas and skills. There won't be a packed timetable, so plenty of time to explore the coast, take trips out, hang out, make new friends and play. It is a family camp with 5 Rhythms, not a 5 Rhythms camp.
Everyone chips in to build our little village and take it down at the end of the event.
WHO IS IT FOR?
In one word: families - open to any family where a parent/carer dances 5 Rhythms.
Some families are all mad for 5 Rhythms and the children rarely get a chance to dance. This is for you.
Some families have some members who love to dance 5 Rhythms and others who think they are mad. This is for you.
Some parents/carers rarely get to dance 5 Rhythms because of childcare. This is for you.
Some children love to dance 5 Rhythms but aren't allowed at evening classes. This is for you.
Nobody will be expected to hold hands with strangers and sing neo-pagan chants - although if that's your bag, it's very welcome; we'll find a space for you. Nobody will be expected to sit through long boring morning meetings and do weird breathing exercises.
WHAT IS PROVIDED
Camping in a beautiful spacious meadow close to Scarborough's beaches, wild cliffs and the North Yorkshire moors. There will be structures on site for the daytime dances, funshops/workshops and sheltered activities. I provide a basic kitchen tent with burners etc. for those who wish to use it. You are free to fend for yourself or gang up with other families for cooking. There are showers and a toilet block on site and portaloos in the field itself.
In addition to daytime dances and other activities on site, there will be indoor 5 Rhythms sessions for adults only in nearby halls within walking distance. We already have a fair few 5 Rhythms teachers coming - expect variety!
HOW IT WORKS
Families are made up of children and adults - Children are welcome to bring adults - uncles, aunts, grandparents, carers, foster parents and close family friends. Adults must be accompanied by at least one child.
If your family has 1-2 children you can bring max 4 adults, if your family has 3 or more children you can bring 5 adults
There is room for a small number of unaccompanied adults who regularly dance 5 Rhythms, this is by invitation only; talk to your local teacher if you are interested.
Event Entry Price -
£55-£85 per adult depending on income for the whole event. This year there is also one carers ticket at £30 available per family group for any adults who come solely to help with childcare.
Unwaged couple: £95
Waged couple: £140
Waged single adult: £85
Unwaged single adult: £55
Non-participating carer: £30 (for those who have come mainly to help with childcare, of course they are very welcome to join in with all of the F5 activities!)
Young adult (16-22): £35
Children FREE up to 4 children per family group - any additional children will be £30 per child
To keep things simple, you can secure your booking through a £20 deposit ticket for each adult/young adult/carer and a free ticket for each child. Please email christopherboylan@yahoo.co.uk letting me know the balance you intend to pay. Remember camping is in addition to the event cost as it goes direct to Hay Brow campsite.
Camping - Tents/Campers/Caravans all welcome in the meadow - £30 per adult for the whole event regardless of how many nights you are staying. Children camp FREE. Camping money is to be paid separately in cash at the event.
We need to keep driving on and off the meadow field to an absolute minimum so, if you bring a camper on to the meadow; no in and out after arrival, car share with others or borrow a car.
Campers and caravans - hard-standing pitches with hook-up, just outside the main camping field - £15 per vehicle/caravan per night (limited places) There is no per person charge on these pitches.
I'm very conscious of keeping it accessible to all, there are a lot of events that look affordable but become very pricey when it's all added up. I have tried to reflect this in the pricing.
You will be responsible to keep the people you bring safe .If you are pooling childcare while you go off for an adult dance - make sure everyone in your gang is clear who is the responsible adult looking out for your children.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring whatever you would bring if you were going camping with a group of friends - which is what this is, even though you may not have met them yet! Don't forget to pack your sense of fun. Buckets and spades can be most efficacious. Musical instruments, songs, stories, jokes and imagination are all very welcome! Marshmallows seem to be a F5 essential.
Dressing up clothes for the ball; this year we will begin mask-making and costume making early in the event.
You can join in with others to share cooking or cook for yourself and your family group.
Sorry, no dogs and no fires other than the main camp fire.
This is a genuine community event where everyone offers as much or as little as they want. If you are looking for an event with wall to wall workshops and everything laid on for you there are plenty of other options. If you are looking for spacious, precious, fun time with your family and others, get yourself over!
ARRIVAL
This year, camp set-up is a group activity. We will set up the marquees etc, on the Friday and the Saturday. Arrive any time from Friday morning, sorry, no arrivals after midday Saturday except in exceptional circumstances. For those familiar with the site, the set-up will be very different this year. Please camp only in the designated camping areas. There is a quiet zone close to the field entrance and the toilet/shower block for families with babies and small children.
With love,
Chris
