Wellbeing in nature for unpaid carers

Roots for the Future is offering unpaid carers a “green prescription” of eco-therapy sessions. Some of these sessions will be practicing mindfulness in a local green space. Others will be woodland sessions of forest bathing - slow, mindful walking, opening all your senses to nature, scientifically proven to improve health. 

This second session taking place on Thursday 1st May, 10.15am arrival for a 10.30 start ending at 12.30pm. 

This session falls on May Day which traditionally celebrates the vitality of spring. It will be at the beautiful Farncombe Community Garden between Guildford and Godalming in Surrey. Much more of the garden will have sprung out by this session so we should be able to experience lots of colours and scents. 

This session is open to any unpaid carer, even if you came to the first session in March. These wellbeing sessions help people use nature to promote the relaxation response which repairs and restores our bodies and minds. We will be laying the foundations for regularly using nature for wellness, so you can maintain your own health while you continue to care for your loved one. An unpaid carer is someone who provides care for a friend or family member who needs help, but is not paid to do so by a company or local authority. To be clear, even if you get benefits or a carers allowance for caring for a loved one, you are still considered an unpaid carer.

Roots for the Future has funding from Surrey County Council which pays for 80% of the cost of the session. This allows us to charge only £5 for the tickets, plus a small booking fee. We have funding for eight sessions which will take place in spring, summer and autumn of 2025.

Farncombe community garden has parking and is fully accessible.
