SHIBARI ELEMENTS 3 // HIP HARNESS LAB // IMPROVERS
The Shibari Elements Lab series returns, expanded to provide all the tools you need to create your own alchemical Kinbaku and Shibari scenes.
Each Element explores a single fundamental component of rope in depth. Together, they form a growing vocabulary that can be combined and applied to floor work, self-tying, partial suspension and full suspension.
ELEMENT 3 // HIP HARNESS
Hip Harnesses are one of the fundamental building blocks of Kinbaku.
Once understood, they unlock countless possibilities for composition, movement, play, suspension and self-suspension.
In this lab we will explore Hip Harnesses through function, structure and aesthetics.
Rather than learning a single pattern, we will study the concepts that make a Hip Harness work.
Following the philosophy of Tiger Nawa Ryū, we teach concepts rather than patterns. By understanding the function of every element and the role of each technique, you become free to choose, adapt and combine different approaches according to the body, the intention and the moment.
From structured minimalism to ornate maximalism, we will explore multiple Hip Harness styles and variations while developing the understanding needed to design your own rather than simply reproducing somebody else's.
Our goal is not only to teach Hip Harnesses.
Our goal is to teach you how to think about Hip Harnesses.

ATTENDANCE
👤 Solo: Welcome
👥 Partner: Recommended
🔄 Partner Matching: Whenever possible
💡 Suitable for: Partnered Rope & Self-Tying
This workshop has been designed equally for partnered rope and self-tying.
The concepts, principles and techniques explored throughout the day apply equally whether you are building a Hip Harness on another person or on yourself. Understanding the structure, function and purpose of a Hip Harness gives you the freedom to apply it confidently in either practice.
If your interest is primarily partnered rope, we encourage attending with your own partner whenever possible, allowing you to explore communication, adaptation and body differences together.
If your focus is self-tying or self-suspension, you are equally welcome to attend on your own. Everything taught during the workshop translates directly into self-rigging practice.
WHAT TO WEAR
Close-fitting clothing such as leggings, shorts or fitted sportswear is recommended so that rope placement, structure and tension around the hips can be clearly observed.
Wear whatever allows you to move comfortably and feel like yourself.
SAFETY & ADAPTATION
Different bodies require different solutions.
Throughout the workshop we explore anatomy, body mechanics, communication and adaptation rather than assuming one structure fits every person.
