Rumbo North Isles: Shetland
Rumbo North Isles: Shetland
Rumbo North Isles is a brand new latin & local music festival, bringing together the rich musical traditions of Orkney and Shetland with the vibrant, colourful rhythms of Latin America.
Join us at Mareel for our Shetland festival show - an afternoon and evening of performances from Argentinian groups Lohdóh and El Guapo, alongside North Isles favourites Kris Drever (with full band), Catriona Price, Amy Laurenson & Norman Wilmore, and Skelpit, plus a special appearance from the Bigton Samba Band. The show will feature intercultural collaborations between the Latin American and Northern Isles musicians throughout.
The artists:
Kris Drever is one of Scotland’s most acclaimed folk singers and songwriters, renowned for his powerful voice, masterful guitar playing and deeply evocative songs. Lohdóh (pronounced lo-DOH) is an Argentine duo exploring songcraft through a contemporary urban aesthetic, blending rich vocal textures, electronic influences and poetic storytelling. Orcadian fiddle player, singer and composer Catriona Price is known for her work with Fara and Twelfth Day, blending contemporary influences with traditional styles in a fresh, fiddle-led, full band sound. El Guapo combines Latin American songwriting with elements of rock, funk, jazz and global music traditions to create an energetic and genre-crossing sound. Shetland duo Amy Laurenson & Norman Wilmore bring together piano and saxophone in a vibrant partnership that draws on folk, jazz and contemporary musical traditions. Skelpit is an exciting new Shetland band celebrating the islands’ rich traditional folk heritage through fresh arrangements, dynamic musicianship and infectious energy.
