Critical Incident Response training
Dates: Tuesday Sept 2nd and 9th, 10am - 4pm
Location: online, via Zoom
Cost: £300 + VAT
Critical incidents, such as fire, suicide, robbery, fatal accident, sudden illness or a holdup, can affect workplace teams. These can occur onsite or off-site. Rowan Consultancy provides a critical incident response service, outlined here https://www.rowan-consultancy.co.uk/critical-incidents.htm. We work with groups in the workplace, helping them to process the incident.
This training will give you the theory of critical incident response, followed by practical, interactive exercises to practice new skills. Places are limited to a maximum of 12 participants to ensure that everyone get practice, and can interact.
You need to be comfortable holding benign authority in groups, providing psycho-education and facilitating the process. It is a different skill from counselling. We find critical incident response work very satisfying, helping groups to process difficult experiences together.
If you have experienced trauma in the six months leading up to this training, we recommend that you don't participate, since it may be too raw and re-triggering. If you'd like to discuss this with us please email us on rowan@rowan-consultancy.co.uk.
Trainers: Rachel Weiss and Mark Hepburn, who are both experienced counsellors, trainers and critical incident responders
Who is this for: Counsellors, or counselling skills users, who want to support groups after critical incidents.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this online, interactive training you will:
- be familiar with the 7-stage Mitchell model for Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) for a structured group discussion after a critical incident (Mitchell and Everly 1996)
- understand that CISD is part of a broader programme of Critical Incident Stress Management
- be aware of some criticisms made of CISD
- be aware of different behaviours which may be displayed by group members during the CISD and how to respond to these
