Archaeology 2025 in 2025: Reflections on where we are and where we want to be
Thu 27 Feb 2025 09:30 - 16:30 GMT
Royal Irish Academy, 19 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, D02 HH58
Description
Full-day conference reviewing shifts that have taken place since the publication of "Archaeology 2025: Strategic Pathways for Archaeology"
In 2016 the Royal Irish Academy published Archaeology 2025: Strategic Pathways for Archaeology in Ireland mapping out a sustainable future for the management, resourcing and promotion of archaeology on the island of Ireland.
Now in 2025 the Standing Committee for Archaeology is reviewing the shifts that have taken place in the intervening years. There have been many positive developments which should be acknowledged, alongside lingering issues and new gaps that require attention in the coming years. A report arising from that review will be published by the end of 2025.
The conference will include papers on the following topics, all based on the pillars of the Archaeology 2025 strategy
- Delivering Archaeology - Ian Doyle, Heritage Council
- Sustainable Practice - Rós Ó Maoldúin, Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland
- Modernising Legislation - Margaret Gowen, Consultant World Heritage Advisor and Rhonda Robinson, Historic Environment Division (HED), Department for Communities Northern Ireland
- Research Horizons - Eimear Meegan, Discovery Programme
- Education and Skills - Patrick Gleeson, Queens’ University Belfast
- Maximising Impact - Ronan O’Flaherty, Crane Bag Consultancy
- Overview - Ann Degraeve, European Archaeological Council
