Three years into this long-term study, ARINS will run a one-day seminar to facilitate a discussion of the ARINS Public Opinion surveys at the Royal Irish Academy, with contributions from a panel of international experts.

The North and South series is a collaboration between The Irish Times and ARINS (Analysing and Researching Ireland North and South), a joint research project of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame.

The project consists of two major, in-depth opinion polls conducted simultaneously in Northern Ireland and the Republic. The project involves investigating public opinion on the island, North and South, pertinent to but not confined to the possibility of future Irish unification.
These were jointly funded by The Irish Times and ARINS. In 2025 in addition, two day-long deliberative forums were held: one in the North and one in the South, sponsored by the RIA and the Keough-Naughton Institute.

The seminar will provide a forum to take stock of what has been achieved in the project to date and to consider the most valuable ways forward in the coming years before the second phase of the project begins in 2026.

All details of the surveys are on our website along with the data that is published for academic use.
