Beyond the Garden Gate
The National Garden Scheme - Past & Present
You may have heard of the National Garden Scheme' Yellow Book' or seen the distinctive yellow posters advertising gardens, but have you ever wondered who opens their gardens and why?
Come and join us for a talk by Heather Skinner, honorary Vice President of the NGS, that offers a fascinating insight into this wonderful but little-known charity.
Heather begins with a look back at how it all started almost a century ago, how garden visiting evolved and shares with us first-hand insights into some of the beautiful gardens in our area that are open to visit in 2025.
Heather developed her love of nature as a child in Yorkshire, where she grew up helping her father in their garden and allotment. She has been the volunteer County Organiser for the National Garden Scheme in Berkshire since 2007.
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,300 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands, and raises impressive amounts of money for some of the UK's best-loved nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
Doors to the York Club open at 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start.
The York Club Bar will be open for refreshments.
Please use Rangers Gate SL4 2BS to enter Windsor Great Park.
