WORKSHOP FORMAT

In this workshop, you will work on text within a safe and ensemble led environment to unlock, re-imagine and have fun exploring a text through exercises and techniques that will build your confidence. You will experience a condensed version of Rupert Goold's approach to rehearsals and process – including script analysis, creating character, and how to vividly bring both to life. It’ll be a chance to jump into a specific scene or monologue with detail and guidance and receive feedback and direction. All within a focused, creative and supportive environment.

BIO

Rupert Goold CBE is a multi-award-winning director, working primarily in theatre alongside hugely successful forays into film. He is the Artistic Director of the The Old Vic, prior to which he was Artistic Director of The Almeida Theatre, Headlong Theatre and Associate Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has twice been the recipient of the Olivier, Critics’ Circle and Evening Standard awards for Best Director. He has additionally co-authored three adaptations for the stage.

In 2014 Rupert directed the World Premiere of Mike Bartlett's new play King Charles III at the Almeida. Following a sold-out run, King Charles III transferred to the Wyndham's Theatre, embarked on a Broadway run in autumn 2015, and toured in the UK and Australia. Rupert later directed Mike Bartlett’s screen adaptation of the play which aired on BBC2 in May 2017, and which was nominated for a BAFTA. Rupert’s first directorial as Artistic Director of the Almeida, American Psycho: A new musical thriller, transferred to Broadway in spring 2016.

In 2017 Rupert directed the World Premiere of James Graham’s new play Ink, which transferred to the Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End and which was nominated at the Olivier Awards for Best New Play, Best Director, Best Design and Best Supporting Actor, winning the latter. The production was also nominated for numerous Tony Awards including Best Play and Best Director. Most recently Rupert directed the critically acclaimed World Premiere of Shipwreck written by Anne Washburn.

In 2015 Rupert's first feature film was released - True Story, starring James Franco and Jonah Hill. His second, Judy, written by Tom Edge, premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, receiving critical praise and multiple award nominations with Renee Zellweger sweeping the 2019-20 awards season, winning the Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and Academy Award for Best Actress.
