WORKSHOP FORMAT
Acting Through Song: A Full Day Intensive
This masterclass explores the craft of storytelling through song, examining how text, music and dramatic intention work together to create truthful, compelling performances. Led by acclaimed theatre director Max Webster, the workshop focuses on unlocking the dramatic life of a song, helping participants move beyond vocal delivery to create work that is emotionally connected, specific and theatrically alive.
The session will be accompanied throughout by a highly skilled professional pianist, providing live musical accompaniment in a professional rehearsal setting.
Working with material from the musical theatre repertoire, participants will explore character, intention, action and the relationship between lyric and score. Through individual coaching, practical exercises and group discussion, Max will share his approach to directing musical performance, drawing on his experience developing and staging award-winning productions.
