Want to create an original comedy character and give them the perfect platform to shine? Interested in developing your own TV series to showcase your talent?

In this unique four-week course, led by an experienced BBC comedy writer, you’ll learn the essential building blocks of sitcom and comedy-drama writing - from character and conflict to tone, situation and story. Together, we’ll explore what makes a truly memorable comedy character and how to craft one tailored to your own voice, style and performance strengths.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop your character from the ground up, receiving professional one-to-one guidance as you write and refine your own original comedy scene. You’ll then bring your work to life by performing it with your fellow actors in a supportive and creative environment.

In the final session, we’ll revisit and polish your scene, helping you maximise its comedic potential before recording a to-camera performance as your fully realised, three-dimensional comedy character. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with filmed content and the a foundation and tools to begin your new web series journey.

BIO

David Cantor has twenty years’ experience writing on primetime BBC sitcoms, sketch shows, panel shows and childrens series as well as serving as a script editor and story producer on shows for CBBC, CITV and Disney. Away from television David is a successful playwright, his most recent comedy stage play completing a number one UK tour.
