Develop the ability to adjust performance truthfully and technically between stage and screen while maintaining emotional authenticity.
Day 1: Stage - Angus Jackson is an Oliver Award-winning Director. In the first half of this two-day Stage and Screen workshop, we will use extracts from a range of accomplished plays to explore acting choices for the stage. Through practical work on text, character, staging and storytelling, we will examine how to take a script from page to performance. The day will conclude with an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Day 2: Screen - Angus Jackson is a BAFTA-nominated film and television director. In the second half of this two-day Stage and Screen workshop, we will explore acting choices for film and television using a variety of screenplay extracts. Through practical exercises, we will examine screen acting techniques, working methods on set, and how to deliver your best work in front of the camera. The day will conclude with an opportunity for questions and discussion.
BIO
As a director I am committed to telling intelligent, emotionally truthful, morally complex and provocative stories in visually striking ways on stage and screen. I’m currently developing two feature films and a long form tv drama.
My short films for Film4, The Guardian and other platforms have been screened at festivals and on broadcast television. They feature actors including Romola Garai, David Tennant, Ray Winstone, and Patrick Stewart, with scripts by writers including Patrick Marber and Mark O’Rowe and cinematography by G. Magni Ágústsson and Danny Cohen.
In theatre, I have directed new plays by David Hare and Kwame Kwei-Armah at the National Theatre. Many of my productions have transferred to the West End, including Oppenheimer, Elmina’s Kitchen, and the Olivier Award-winning Goodnight Mr Tom.
I have collaborated with a wide range of exceptional actors, including Andrew Scott, Jonathan Bailey, Noma Dumezweni, Riz Ahmed, Nicola Walker, Michael Sheen and many more.
I have also directed a feature length film for the BBC for which I was nominated for a BAFTA as Best New Director.
