WORKSHOP FORMAT
3, 10 & 17 OCT | 3 Sessions | 17:30–21:30 GMT | 9:30–12:30 PDT | 12:30–15:30 EDT
This is a one-time fee and includes all three sessions in the course.
This three-week course covers the nuts and bolts of screen acting auditions, taking actors through the process from live Zoom auditions and self-tapes to final chemistry reads.
WEEK 1: LIVE ZOOM AUDITION
Working as if this were a real audition for the role, actors will perform their scene live via Zoom. Danny will give notes and direction, with the opportunity to do an additional take. Each actor will receive feedback to take away and work on ahead of Week 2.
WEEK 2: SELF-TAPE
Between Weeks 1 and 2, actors will integrate Danny’s notes and their deeper understanding of the scene to create a self-tape.
During the second Zoom class, the group will watch everyone’s self-tapes together. Danny will give individual feedback on the acting, how effectively notes have been incorporated, and the technical and creative choices behind each self-tape.
This is also a great opportunity for actors to see how their peers approach self-taping and learn from one another’s work.
WEEK 3: CHEMISTRY READS
For the final week, actors will return to the same sides, but this time the audition moves to the callback stage.
Instead of working with a reader, actors will work side-by-side with another actor auditioning for the role in the scene, recreating the experience of a final chemistry read.
BIO
Danny is an award-winning casting director, theatre director and educator.
As a casting director, his recent credits include Noam Argov’s Verse, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and San Diego Comic-Con, and Andrew Chappelle’s I’m Gonna Kill You, which screened at the Inside Out Festival and Provincetown International Film Festival.
Additional recent casting credits include the acclaimed A24/Netflix series Beef, which received Emmy and Artios Awards for Outstanding Casting, and All That We Love, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and received an Artios Award nomination.
Danny’s artistic journey began in New York City with avant-garde theatre auteur Richard Foreman at the Ontological-Hysteric Theatre. His time in the downtown art scene ignited a passion for actors and for how a performer’s unique authenticity can strengthen the stories we tell.
As a theatre director, his work includes Amy Herzog’s Mary Jane, created with an ensemble of actresses with disabilities, and Doug Wright’s I Am My Own Wife, created with an ensemble of transgender and non-binary performers. His adaptation was described as “singularly powerful and important” by the play’s Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.
As an educator, Danny is an adjunct professor in the MFA Acting programme at Columbia University, where he teaches his course You & the Camera. He has also recently been a guest instructor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, Syracuse University’s Aaron Sorkin Intensive, and numerous studios and theatre companies.
He is the co-founder of The Artist’s Space and a member of the Casting Society of America and the National Alliance of Acting Teachers.
