Our Food Tells Our Story
Join us at 5:30 pm for a culinary and cultural celebration: a long table dinner and storytelling with renowned Palestinian chef Izzeldin Bukhari of Sacred Cuisine, visiting from East Jerusalem. Live music by ANAGRAM with Anna Lumiere and Graham Ord.
Chef Izzeldin will share a multiple course vegetarian/vegan meal of traditional Palestinian foods and delight you with stories about the dishes' ingredients, history and how they reflect Palestinian culture. Hear about Izzeldin's family ties and childhood experiences in Gaza with his grandmother and extended family, and discover how food relates to cultural resistance.
In Izzeldin's own words:
"Rich in nutritious ingredients and flavorful spices that are bound to the land, Palestinian food has made a deep impact on Mediterranean cuisine at large.
We are home to dishes that reflect our ancestors’ deep understanding of their soil, their ingredients, and their homeland.
Our aim is to keep that tradition alive, despite the relentless political and cultural pressures threatening its existence, and share that with the world."
