Hear chef and educator Izzeldin Bukhari, visiting Canada for the first time from East Jerusalem, and Dr. Yipeng Ge (Doctors Against Genocide) in conversation on Palestinian food traditions (from harvest to preservation), and how Gaza's communal kitchens are providing urgent healthcare in Gaza.

A huge thank you to our friends at Ottawa's FONO HiFi Lounge for opening their doors to us for this event. Come early: Between 5pm and 6pm, join us in the lounge for a chance to connect with fellow attendees and enjoy vegetarian-friendly appetizers, prepared by Chef Izzeldin. Then, at 6pm, we begin the hosted conversation, with general seating.

FONO is a fully accessible venue designed to welcome all guests.

A portion of the profits will support The Sameer Project, a donations-based initiative led by Palestinians in the diaspora, working to supply aid to displaced families in Gaza.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Dr. Yipeng Ge
is a primary care physician and public health practitioner based on the traditional, unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg (also known as Ottawa, Canada). In his clinical practice, he works in family medicine practice and refugee health at a community health centre. He has worked on and studied the structural and colonial determinants of health in both the settler colonial contexts of so-called Canada and occupied Palestine. He volunteered as a medic in Gaza in 2024 during the genocide.

Chef Izzeldin Bukhari
is a chef and food researcher dedicated to preserving and reimagining Palestinian culinary heritage. As the founder of "Sacred Cuisine," he runs pop-up kitchens, food tours, and cooking experiences across Palestine, and travels internationally for restaurant residencies, collaborations, and cultural exchanges. Known for his plant-forward approach, he specializes in somi cuisine — traditional vegan and vegetarian dishes connected to fasting traditions and seasonal eating practices. His work combines sustainability, zero-waste cooking, spirituality, and cultural preservation. Bukhari has become an active voice in Palestine’s growing gastronomy scene.
