This pop-up brings together Palestinian chefs Izzeldin Bukhari (@sacredcuisine) and Safaa Alnabelseya (@svfvvvv), each carrying their own relationship to Palestinian food, land, and memory. Izzeldin is a plant-based chef from Al Quds. Safaa is a Palestinian-Canadian artist and chef based in Tkaranto. They’ve come together around a shared question: what can food tell us about the land we come from, and the ways we continue to belong to it?

The answer takes shape in a seasonal menu built around Palestinian foodways and the wild plants and seeds that have long grown from the land. Purslane becomes a fresh salad, wild za’atar finds its way into pies, and sumac, anise, tahini, lentils, and pomegranate weave through a menu that moves between savoury and sweet. The menu includes rumanniyeh, sumakiyeh, anise iced tea, and sweet tahini blondies, among other dishes. These are not simply ingredients. They are plants gathered, remembered, cooked, and carried forward. They hold stories of identity and memory, of nourishment and survival, of a people continuing to resist, exist, return, and remain connected to the land.

Rooted is an invitation to share in those stories, one dish at a time. 🇵🇸

The full menu will be served in a takeaway box, with Palestinian dishes to enjoy on the go or picnic outside the bakery. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options will be available. See our menu post for the full offering. Menu items are subject to change.
