These one day foundation Permaculture workshops will give you an understanding of how we can use Earth Care, People Care and Fair Shares combined with a set of principles that mimic natural systems to make best use of time, space and energy while creating beauty and abundance.
Taking a neglected area of our site at the Saffron Acres Project earmarked to be the site for our new LEAF project as an example, you'll learn the tools to create a design that meets the needs of people and wildlife - food, shelter, nourishment, beauty, companionship.
Day One - Sunday 8th February will be focused on permaculture principles and observation skills.
Day Two - Saturday 14th February will be mainly about permaculture design process and tools.
You don't need to book both, but to benefit fully from the second day you will need to have attended the first. Once you have selected a date to book there will be an option to book both sessions together at a discounted price.
These workshops provide an introduction to permaculture, with a chance to go into deeper learning in future sessions, as well as opportunities to be involved in the development of our new area.
Attending the two days will count as 12 hours towards a 72 hr full Permaculture Design Course.
The course facilitator will be Samantha Woods, a Permaculture Association UK certified teacher.
Time: 9:30-4:30
Place: Saffron Heath, 60 Heathcott Road, Leicester LE2 6AX
We will spend time outside, as well as in the classroom, so please bring suitable clothing and footwear.
Refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own lunch.
Typically we’ve seen these workshops costing from £40-60.
We are offering a range of suggested prices to suit different abilities to pay, plus totally free spaces to anyone with a postcode in the local area LE2 6xx, supported by LEAF funding . All funds raised from ticket sales and donations go straight into supporting the Project's activities - for example a contribution of £5 will cover a packet of seeds, £15 will pay for a new set of hand tools and £25 will pay for an hour of therapeutic support.
Site information.
We will be based on Saffron Heath, the part of Saffron Acres Project that consists of a peaceful seven acre meadow and growing site. There are numerous heritage features including unusual local varieties of fruit and nut trees, a pre-Victorian field pond and an Anderson shelter. The heritage aspects of the Heath also includes the use of scything to manage the grassland.
The Heath provides many important components of the range of opportunities we offer to local people, schools and other groups, all based around horticultural, environmental and wellbeing experiences. To maximise these opportunities we have an on-site classroom, kitchen and composting toilet as well as an outdoor shelter. We can offer guided sessions to fit in with a range of themes including habitats, the elements, environmental art, materials and construction, recycling, and growing fruit and vegetables.
