Rush Hour Concert - William Jack - This Old Cello Box Vol. 2
Thu 7 Nov 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM GMT
33 Hampstead Lane, N6 4RT
Description
William Jack is a classically trained guitar-playing cellist-song writer from South Australia.
William studied the cello at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, guitar at the Julliard Winter Jazz School in Australia and then cello in Vienna. Among many other engagements he has played at the Sydney Opera House, the Musikverein in Vienna, as Jazz cello soloist at the International Cello Festival in Rutesheim and as a ‘New Folk’ songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.
In 2022 he recorded his first solo cello album, The Old Cello Box which was premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe and played on Radio 3. It was inspired by folk music from across the globe and offered a fresh perspective on the instrument. 'An album rich in traditions, but not encumbered by them, the music transitions seamlessly from virtuosic folk & bluegrass to non-Western sound worlds.'
This year he recorded The Old Cello Box Vol 2 which, again, will be premiered in Edinburgh before going on tour round Scotland and the north of England.
On November 7th we will be hosting it's London launch - and William will be playing for us.
