Description
The Kyan quartet really does span the seas - Naomi (violin) from London, Sydney (violin) from Los Angeles, Wanshu (viola) from China and Simon (cello) from France. So they like to span the seas in the music they play, including pieces from British, Chinese, American and French composers in their programmes.
Formed in 2020 the quartet have held residencies with the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, the European String Teachers Association, and the Borromeo Music Festival. They are mentored by Ying Xue of the Doric Quartet and have been coached by members of the Carducci, Chilingirian, Heath, London Haydn, and Piatti Quartets. They are also members of Le Dimore del Quartetto.

The concert will be followed by supper and wine.
TICKET 'PRICE':
Because we are not a public venue we do not 'sell' tickets. Instead we ask you to make a donation (suggested amount £30 per ticket) which will enable us to pay our musicians a reasonable fee and contribute a small amount towards the cost of supper and wine.

Naomi Warburton (violin)
graduated from Clare College Cambridge with a Double First in Music, where she was an award holder on the university’s Instrumental Award Scheme. Through this, she received coaching from ensembles such as the Endellion and Ligeti Quartets and the Amatis Piano Trio. Naomi also led multiple orchestras whilst at Cambridge and has performed as part of various chamber ensembles at the Festival Berlioz in France, and live on BBC Radio 3’s “In Tune” programme.
Sydney Grace Mariano (violin),
first trained and played in Los Angeles but came to London in 2019 to take her masters at the Royal Academy. Sydney is mentored by Ying Xue of the Doric String Quartet and is a member of the Chineke! Orchestra with whom she has performed at the Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie and the the Royal Albert Hall. She also appeared at the Brit Awards and was involved in the recording Max Richter's most recent album of Vivaldi's Four Seasons - Recomposed.
Sydney is passionate about cultivating a diverse community of young musicians and is currently teaching as one of the Royal Academy’s fellows at First Strings Experience.
Wanshu Qui (viola) grew up in Chengdu, China, and began to play the viola at 15. She gained her undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music and was then awarded full scholarship by the Royal Academy of Music to continue her Master’s and Professional Diploma. She was also awarded the Barbirolli Evelyn Rothwell Prize for outstanding studentship. Wanshu has played at the Lucerne, Edinburgh International and Bowdoin Festivals and with the Nash Ensemble, Aurora Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Manchester Collective, the Hallé and BBC Philharmonic. Wanshu also has also been invovled in theatre, jazz, and multi and cross-media projects. She currently holds the 2023/2024 Fellowship for the Royal Academy of Music.
Simon Guémy (cello) grew up in Paris where he studied cello at Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris. He is now pursuing a masters at the Royal Academy while playing in projects led by Ludovic Morlot, Ryan Wigglesworth, Semyon Bychkov, Timothy Weiss, Edvard Gardner, Marin Alsop and Jac Van Steen. Simon has also played at the Aldeburgh festival, Violoncellenseine, Musiques en Vivarais Lignon, Two Moors festival, Timber festival and Borromeo Music Festival.
Simon enjoys playing a wide variety of cello repertoire, ranging from Gabrieli to today’s composers.
