Nathaniel plays Bach....
Thu 30 Jan 2025 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM GMT
33 Hampstead Lane, N6 4RT
Description
We are delighted to anounce that on January 30th Nathaniel Mander and his fine spinet, La Pompadour, will be returning to Hampstead Lane.
Regular attendees at Salon Music concerts may remember that they first visited fifteen months ago for La Pompadour's inaugural London outing. At that point she looked very splendid but did not yet have her full complement of roses, nor her cabriole legs and fine golden cloven feet. But now you will be able to see - and hear - her in her full glory.
PROGRAMME:
To celebrate their return Nathaniel will be playing a full programme of Bach.
Preludes, suites, rondeaux and minuets from the Anna Magdalena Bach books.
These are the manuscript notebooks that Johann Sebastian presented to his second wife, the singer Anna Magdalena Wilcke.
SUPPER:
The concert will be followed by a suitably 'antique' supper and wine.
TICKET 'PRICE':
Because we are not a public venue we do not 'sell' tickets. Instead we ask you to make a donation (suggested amount £30 per ticket) which will enable us to pay our musicians a reasonable fee and contribute a small amount towards the cost of supper and wine.
THE ARTIST:
Nathaniel began his education with Richard Lester in Cirencester before moving to London in 2007 to train at the Royal Academy of Music with Carole Cerasi. He later travelled to Paris and Rome in order to study with Béatrice Martin, Elisabeth Joyé, Skip Sempe and Pierre Hantai. Along with Carole Cerasi, who deeply influenced his sound and approach to the instrument, these remain his most important musical influences.
As solo recitalist Nathaniel has performed internationally a wide ranging repertoire from the Elizabethan Virginalists, through the sonatas of Mozart and Haydn, and right up to the music of Chopin and Schubert on fortepiano. Following the release of a new series of teaching videos that Nathaniel created for the Japanese Early Music organisation ‘Académie de Cour’, he has been invited to perform in Japan in 2024.
His debut solo recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations was released in 2022 to great acclaim. Prior to this he recorded a disk of 18th century French repertoire on the beautiful Dragon harpsichord at Raynham Hall in Norfolk. As continuo player he has also recorded several disks of chamber music and a CD with La Nuova Musica. Nathaniel recently recorded a harpsichord concerto composed for him by British composer Barry Mills with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.
