Madeleine Mitchell and her London Chamber Ensemble Quartet, Gordon MacKay, Bridget Carey and Joseph Spooner, return to celebrate the final work in their complete recording of Charles Wood's string quartets.
They will be playing Wood's quartet No. 5 (first performed in 1916) plus the scherzo from Wood's Quartet in A minor. These will be paired with Beethoven's Razumovsky Quartet - a fitting pairing as Wood revered Beethoven and his music.
Even more fitting as the London Chamber Ensemble Quartet played late Beethoven when they launched the very first Salon Music concert in 2019, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. And now, in 2027, the 200th anniversary of his death, they are back with music not just of Beethoven but of his ardent admirer, Charles Wood.
PROGRAMME:
Charles Wood - Quartet no.5 in F major
Ludwig von Beethoven - Razumovsky Quartet Op. 59 no.1
Charles Wood - Scherzo from Wood Quartet in A Minor.
SUPPER:
The concert will be followed by a buffet supper as always.
TICKET 'PRICE':
Because we are not a public venue we cannot 'sell' tickets. Instead we ask you to make a donation - suggested minimum £35 per ticket.
Of this, £5 from each ticket will go to the Camden Music Trust. The
Trust supports music in Camden schools with particular emphasis on
children who might not otherwise have access to instruments or music
lessons.
The remaining £30 enables us to pay our musicians a reasonable fee with any surplus going towards the cost of supper and wine.
ABOUT THE PLAYERS:
The
LCEQ have had a tremendous reception for their earlier Wood's
recordings which have been featured on Radio 3, BBC Ulster, RTÉ Lyric FM
and reviewed by the Gramophone:
What a lovely album:, showcasing performances of heartfelt dedication, shapely sensitivity and infectious spontaneity.'
They recently performed the quartets at the Three Choirs Festival will also be playing two of them on 31st October at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge where Wood was Professor of Music.
