Suitable for beginners and intermediates this workshop will enable you get to grips with knotting at a comfortable pace with plenty of support and make a beautiful plant hanger.
Macrame is a fibre art that uses cord knotted in patterns to create plant hangers, bags, jewellery and stunning wall hangings. It’s brilliantly flexible and encourages mindfulness, wellbeing, and patience.
Macrame naturally helps you slow down. The steady, repeated movements give your hands something to focus on, which makes it easier for your mind to settle. As you work knot by knot, you start to relax, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the process. It’s a great way to take a break from busy thoughts.
This workshop is led by Stephanie Hurrell of Thrive with Craft:
I began learning macramé four years ago while helping raise funds for medical aid for Ukraine working alongside displaced Ukrainian families who had settled in my hometown.
I’ve tried many crafts over the years, but macramé quickly became much more than a hobby. Today, I run my own small business designing and selling my pieces and sharing my love of knots with others.
Sustainability is at the heart of my work. I use rescued or recycled materials wherever possible, giving them a second life and ensuring that my practice does no harm to people or the planet. I love showing how discarded items can be transformed into something beautiful, and I’m passionate about encouraging others to “tread lightly on the planet.”
My style blends traditional macramé techniques with a modern twist, combining different materials and textures to create plant hangers, wall hangings, and home and garden décor inspired by nature.
