WORKSHOP: Macrame Short Course (3 sessions: 2, 9, 16 Sept)

Wed 2 Sep 2026 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM Saltash Studios, PL12 4BY

Macrame is a craft that naturally helps you slow down. The steady, repeated movements give your hands something to focus on, which makes it easier for your mind to settle. As you work knot by knot, you start to relax, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the process. It’s a great way to take a break from busy thoughts.

Suitable for beginners and intermediate this short course is 3 sessions spread over 3 weeks where you can discover macrame and make your own beautiful macrame wall hanger.

In 1½‑hour sessions, you’ll be guided by Steph to explore materials type, essential knots and key techniques all while enjoying great company. This course is taught in small groups where you can get to grip with knotting at a comfortable pace with plenty of support.

Each session builds on the last, and you’ll get light, enjoyable “homework” to practice your knots at home between sessions.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a finished wall hanging that you created from scratch, and the skills to continue your macramé journey on your own. Come along and learn a new skill, unwind and make something beautiful for your space.

This workshop is led by Stephanie Hurrell of Thrive with Craft:
I began learning macramé four years ago while helping raise funds for medical aid for Ukraine working alongside displaced Ukrainian families who had settled in my hometown.

I’ve tried many crafts over the years, but macramé quickly became much more than a hobby. Today, I run my own small business designing and selling my pieces and sharing my love of knots with others.

Sustainability is at the heart of my work. I use rescued or recycled materials wherever possible, giving them a second life and ensuring that my practice does no harm to people or the planet. I love showing how discarded items can be transformed into something beautiful, and I’m passionate about encouraging others to “tread lightly on the planet.”

My style blends traditional macramé techniques with a modern twist, combining different materials and textures to create plant hangers, wall hangings, and home and garden décor inspired by nature.
