FILM: Free Party, A Folk History (12A) - Rip It Up Season

Join us for the last screening in our Rip It Up season, celebrating youth culture, rebellion, and self-expression in the South West.

They wanted the freedom to party, the state saw them as the enemy within. This film explores the untold story of the free party movement and how its impact sparked a revolution around the world, from raves and festivals, to politics and protest. 

The film follows the inception of the movement, a meeting between ravers and the new age travellers during Thatcher's last days in power, and the explosive years that followed, leading up the infamous Castlemorton free festival in 1992. Includes local footage from Treworgey, Bodmin Moor, Camelford, Dartmoor and more.

These screenings are part of the Rip It Up UK festival supported by the BFI Film Audience Network. Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Festival of Britain and 50 years of Punk culture in 2026.
