Nordic Walking by the Blackwater

Curious about Nordic walking? Join this friendly introductory session and discover how specially designed poles can transform an everyday walk into an enjoyable full-body activity. Beginning in Maldon’s beautiful Promenade Park, an experienced instructor from South East Nordic Walking will introduce the basic technique through practical tuition and a gentle warm-up. You will then put your new skills into practice on a three-mile walk, following stretches of the river embankment towards Northey Island and exploring tracks through Maldon’s attractive waterside landscape. Nordic walking can engage the upper body, improve posture and balance and provide an effective workout—all while enjoying the fresh air and wonderful Blackwater Estuary views.

Accessibility of route – Footpaths and tracks could be muddy after wet weather, so stout footwear is required.

Start and finish – The Amphitheatre, Promenade Park, Maldon, Essex, CM9 5JQ.
Parking – Pay-and-display parking is available within Promenade Park. Please ensure you pay for sufficient time to cover the full session.

Toilets – Available within Promenade Park, including accessible facilities and a Changing Places toilet.

Public transport – Promenade Park is served by several local bus routes. The nearest bus stop is at the park entrance on Mill Road, a short walk from the Amphitheatre. Please check suitable services and return times at TravelEssex before travelling.

Health and activity questionnaire – Before taking part, walkers will be required to complete a brief health questionnaire covering relevant health conditions. This routine safety measure helps the instructor provide suitable guidance and adapt the session where appropriate.

Equipment – Specially designed Nordic-walking poles are required for the session and these will be provided.

Lunch – There is no lunch stop on this walk.
