Explore Blue House Farm Nature Reserve in the company of an Essex Wildlife Trust guide, who will help reveal the remarkable variety of flora and fauna found within this special riverside landscape. The circular route crosses the reserve’s grazing marshes and follows the seawall beside the River Crouch, offering delightful views across the water throughout. Your guide will point out the birds, plants and other wildlife encountered along the way and explain how the reserve provides valuable habitats for many different species. Autumn brings added excitement as migrating birds begin to arrive, with the possibility of spotting visitors such as the striking Northern Wheatear. Whether you are an experienced birdwatcher or simply enjoy being outdoors, this promises to be a fascinating and rewarding wildlife walk.

Accessibility of route – There are steps and stiles.

Start and finish – Blue House Farm Nature Reserve Car Park, North Fambridge, CM3 6GU. Access is along Blue House Farm Chase, off the junction of Fambridge Road and The Avenue.

Toilets – Ferry Boat Inn.

Public transport – The nearest public-transport point is North Fambridge railway station, around a 15-minute walk from Blue House Farm; the nearest bus stop is also at the station, although regular bus services are very limited. Please check suitable services and return times at TravelEssex before travelling.

Lunch – There is the option of lunch at the Ferry Boat Inn near the end of the walk. No pre-orders needed.  Please indicate whether you are interested in lunch at time of booking so tables can be reserved.
