Enjoy a memorable combination of walking, history and a relaxing journey by water. Beginning at Heybridge Basin, the route follows the seawall beside the Blackwater Estuary, with expansive views and opportunities to spot the area’s varied birdlife. Continue through Heybridge, past historic St Andrew’s Church, before joining the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation and following riverside paths towards Beeleigh. Along the way, discover the meeting of four waterways at Beeleigh Falls and pass the remains of the fascinating Victorian steam mill. The highlight is a walk around the stunning gardens of Beeleigh Abbey, founded for the White Canons in 1180, followed by tea and refreshments. Afterwards, walk back to Beeleigh Lock and board a canal trip boat for a leisurely one-hour cruise along the Navigation to Heybridge Basin - a wonderfully atmospheric conclusion to the day.
