Autumn Woods: Woodham Walter and Danbury

Enjoy the colours and changing character of the autumn countryside on this special exploration of Woodham Walter Common and Danbury Ridge. An expert guide from the Essex Wildlife Trust will lead the group through the nature reserve, sharing their knowledge of its trees, woodland habitats, wildlife and conservation. Discover how this varied landscape is managed and look more closely at the natural features that can easily be missed when walking alone. 

The surrounding field paths, wooded tracks and open sections offer an attractive contrast to the secluded reserve, creating a wonderfully varied seasonal walk. With autumn bringing changing leaves, fruits and seeds, it is an ideal time to experience these peaceful woods in expert company. After returning to Bunsay Downs, there will be the option of lunch and refreshments at the Bar & Grill.

Accessibility of route – No steps or stiles are identified in the guide. Footpaths could be muddy after wet weather, so stout footwear is required.

Start and finish – Bunsay Downs Golf Club Car Park, Little Baddow Road, Woodham Walter, CM9 6RU.

Parking – Parking is available at Bunsay Downs Golf Club. Please use the spaces furthest from the clubhouse, leaving those nearby available for club members and golfers.

Toilets – Available at Bunsay Downs Bar & Grill at the start and finish of the walk.

Public transport – The nearest bus stop is Runsell Green on Maldon Road, but it is not within a convenient walking distance of Bunsay Downs Golf Club. Please check current options at TravelEssex before travelling and arrange alternative transport if necessary.

Lunch – There will be an optional lunch and refreshment stop at Bunsay Downs Bar & Grill after the walk. Walkers wishing to eat should arrive in sufficient time to select and pre-order their meal before the walk starts at 10:30am. Lunch and refreshments are not included in the Festival and must be paid for by walkers.
