EVENING ENTERTAINMENT - Saint Roger of Beeleigh: Maldon’s Almost Patron Saint

Discover the extraordinary story of Saint Roger of Beeleigh, Maldon’s almost-forgotten medieval churchman and perhaps its patron saint. Born at Beeleigh in the late 12th century, Roger rose through the Church to become Bishop of London, becoming embroiled in adventures and disputes with powerful figures of his age. In this illustrated talk, local historian Stephen Nunn brings Roger’s remarkable world vividly to life, exploring the mystery surrounding his remains and intriguing recent archaeological and spiritual developments. Expect fascinating history, unexpected twists and an engaging evening delivered with Stephen’s trademark passion, knowledge and gentle humour.
