"Draw to Learn, Learn to Draw" a 4-week Nature Journaling Adventure!

Monday afternoons from 1 pm -4pm  June 15, 22, 30, and July 6

Slow down, look closely, learn to see as an artist sees and your drawing will flow. This 4-week course invites you to explore the birds and butterflies, wildflowers and weeds of the banks of the River Adur through drawing and journaling—no prior experience needed. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to deepen your creative practice, you’ll learn how sketching can sharpen observation, build confidence, and unlock curiosity.

If you’ve ever said, “I can’t draw,” you’re in exactly the right place. This course is all about silencing that inner critic and discovering what happens when you simply start to look and draw. It's magic, and You CAN draw!

Set against the changing landscape of the salt marsh, this course offers a unique opportunity to return to the same place each week—watching, recording, and responding as it shifts over time. You’ll have space to develop your work across the four weeks, building layers of observation and deepening your connection to both your drawings and the environment.

Each session combines simple drawing and watercolour techniques with mindful nature journaling exercises. You’ll learn how to capture shapes, textures, and details, while also recording your thoughts, questions, and discoveries on the page. Along the way, we’ll explore line, tone, composition, and creative expression in a relaxed, supportive environment.

All basic materials are included, including a quality box set of watercolours and two sketchbooks for you to keep. Coffees, teas, and biscuits will also be provided to keep things warm, relaxed, and sociable.

By the end of the course, you’ll have your own nature journal filled with evolving sketches and insights—and a new way of connecting with the world around you.

What you’ll gain:

  • Confidence in drawing what you see
  • Practical tools for nature journaling
  • Time to develop your work week by week
  • A deeper connection to the changing landscape
  • A creative habit you can continue anywhere

Come as you are—just bring curiosity and a willingness to look closely.
