Mixed Media and Gelli-Print Collage on Canvas
July 4 & 5 | 10am–4pm
Treat yourself to a relaxed and inspiring creative weekend, exploring gelli-printing, and the colours and textures of the salt marsh in a small supportive group in a lovely setting, with yummy lunch and wine!.
Day One: Gelli Printing & Watercolour
Inspired by the wildflowers and weeds on the banks of the River Adur, we’ll begin by creating our own beautiful collage materials. We’ll dive straight in with expressive watercolour on tissue paper, building luminous layers of colour and light.
After a demonstration of simple gelli printing, we’ll take a short stroll along the river, gathering grasses and foliage. Then we'll return to the studio to use your foraged finds to create delicate detailed and evocative botanical prints. You'll each have all your supplies, gelli-plates, acrylics and paper to play.
We embrace that great line from the "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", "It'll all be all right in the end, and it it isn't all right, it isn't the end." It's impossible to make a mistake. You just make a beautiful textured background for the next print!
Following a simple lunch of soup and bread (or feel free to bring your own), there’ll be more time to experiment. By then, your painted tissues will be dry and ready to print onto, alongside music sheets, maps, old book pages, and other surfaces—creating a rich and varied collection of papers.
Day Two: Collage & Acrylic on Canvas
With a beautiful selection of hand-made papers and prints ready, we’ll spend the day exploring composition, layering tissue and painting with acrylic.. You’ll combine your materials into a personal response—your own visual story or poetic interpretation inspired by nature, or any subject you choose.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll create:
- One finished canvas, ready to hang in your home
- One concertina sketchbook filled with prints, colour, and ideas for future work
With a maximum of just four participants, this workshop offers plenty of individual guidance, space, and time to develop your ideas—so early booking is recommended.
Cost: £180 for two days (the cost is a little higher than most of my workshops because the number of participants is strictly limited to 4, and the materials are more expensive.).)
Price includes:
- Two simple, delicious lunches (with wine)
- Teas, coffees, and biscuits throughout
- A set of Anilinky brilliant watercolours
- One 20cm x 50cm box canvas
- One A5 Seawhite concertina sketchbook to keep
- Full use of all materials, including gelli plates, tissues, glues, and mediums
Come and enjoy a weekend of making, experimenting, and creative exploration in good company.
