Camberwell's very own Roda de Samba — a circle of samba, music and community — in a beautiful South London church, with the legendary Aleh Ferreira + friends.

No experience necessary. Come solo, come with family, your people, community.

A few words from Aleh.

"Samba was born and developed in Brazil between Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, native to the enslaved African peoples and to the crossing of drums and the Portuguese guitar in the Recôncavo Baiano region, as well as to the urban music of Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century. Born in the Recôncavo and developed in the terreiro (ritual grounds) of Tia Ciata, it became the main axis of Brazilian culture by uniting music, dance, food, behaviour, ancestry, and spirituality.

Samba tells the story of its community, and also of its country."

It is the beating heart of Brazil, in all its many forms, and nowhere, we believe, does its spirit come more alive than in a Roda de Samba — the most powerful expression of community, collective joy and togetherness we know.

The Roda de Samba embodies this cultural ecosystem. It unites communities, and endures as resistance. It is the natural spokesperson for carrying, through memory, artistic elements of deep connection that channel union and inspire freedom.

Samba is resistance and healing.
