The Reality of Seeking Asylum 2026

Stroud District Together with Refugees and Sanctuary Breaks are putting on this information evening to help our understanding of how asylum policy is playing out in practice in 2026. We have brought together people who have first hand knowledge:  Warren Lee is the new CEO of GARAS (Gloucestershire Action for Refugeees and Asylum Seekers), and brings 10 years previous experience from the Londond Borough of Southwark. He has spent time in refugee camps in Europe.  Our other speakers bring the most powerful direct experience of all - what it is to seek asylum in the UK - from arrival on the shore or at a port of entry to, in their cases, eventual grant of refugee status. 

Doors open at 6.30, and there will be light refreshment before the meeting, which starts at 7pm. Takeaway material will include information about how to get involved in refugee support locally.

On-line ticket sales will a day before the event. Some tickets will still be available on the door.
