Seed to Scene I: Story Incubation

Do you have a concept in mind that you'd like to develop into a script? Or do you have a script that you'd like to further develop into a short film?

Join Seed to Scene I: Story Incubation, a free film workshop series presented by the San Diego Filipino Cinema.

In this workshop, attendees will learn:

1. How to cultivate your story idea/s, and why you are the right person to tell that story.
2. Character and dialogue development.
3. Visual storytelling.

Program Timeline

1:30 PM -- Doors Open. Light refreshments will be served. You are free to mingle and meet fellow attendees.

2:00 PM -- Workshop begins.

3:00 PM -- 5 min. break.

4:00 PM -- Workshop concludes.

Classes will be held in-person at the New Americans Museum located at 2825 Dewey Rd, Suite 102, Ground Floor, San Diego, CA 92106.

Workshop Mentor

The workshop will be led by multi-awarded filmmaker and San Diego Filipino Cinema co-founder and Executive Director, Benito Bautista.

Best known for his award-winning films The Road to Sydney, Boundary, Harana: The Search for the Lost Art of Serenade, and The Gift of Barong, Benito is an NCCA, NETPAC, Gawad Urian, and Emmy Award recipient, as well as the recipient of the CJ Entertainment Award at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Project Market. His films explore social issues, cultural representation, and the richness of the human experience.

Certificate of Completion

Story Incubation is the first part of the Seed to Scene workshop series. Participants are welcome to attend this workshop on its own or continue through the full three-part journey to further develop their storytelling and filmmaking skills.

Participants who complete all three workshops will receive a Seed to Scene Certificate of Completion, which will be presented during the Perspective Film Series Reception on October 10.

If you've registered but can no longer attend, please let us know so we can offer your spot to someone else who would like to join the class. Please notify us at least five days before the class begins by emailing info@sdfilipinocinema.org. If you do not cancel at least five days in advance, you may forfeit priority registration for future workshops.
