Summer Explorers & Family: Moth Masterclass
Thu 25 Jul 2024 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM BST
Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust - Field Centre, CT139PF
Description
Ever wondered what hidden wonders the night holds? Join us for this workshop as we explore the diversity of moth species that make our reserve their home, and those who use us for a pit-stop! Over 1,200 species of moth have been recorded at Sandwich Bay and thanks to our unique location and habitat and we often record interesting migrant moths! Join local moth experts and our Education Officer as we reveal the range of moths we have caught in our traps overnight.
Get up close and personal to some of these fascinating creatures, learn about their life cycle, why we survey moths and why they are so important to biodiversity. We'll then explore the reserve to find day-flying moths and their butterfly cousins, followed by crafts and other fun moth themed activities to show these are not just boring butterflies.
Children need nature, and nature needs future generations to take action and save it. Attendance at our Explorer sessions are a wonderful way to create memories shaped by nature that will inspire a lifelong passion for the world around us.
Led by an experienced team of education leaders and conservationists, we are based on the private Sandwich Bay estate and home to Restharrow Scrape, an artificial wetland which acts as a refuge for many birds, as well as woodland, grassland, dunes and beach!
