Summer Fun at Sandwich Bay: Moth Masterclass & Muffins
Ever wondered what hidden wonders the night holds? Discover its enchantment during a Moth Masterclass & Muffins morning hosted at Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory on either the 6th or 25th August!
Our special corner of Kent supports a rich mosaic of habitats that attract magical moth species such as the Chocolate Tip, Burnished Brass, Elephant Hawkmoth, Blood-Vein, The Drinker, Peach Blossom, Merveille du Jour and Garden Tiger.
Based from the Observatory’s Field Centre, where we’ve recorded over 1200 different species of moth, we’ll introduce you to the spectacular beauty and importance of these misunderstood creatures! Along the way, you'll learn about their life cycle, why we survey moths, and their vital role in supporting biodiversity. Then it's time for some moth-themed fun to prove these aren’t just butterflies in disguise! You can also head off on a self-led trail to keep the adventure going and explore more of our beautiful reserves.
And the Muffins? Every good event needs a tasty treat! Enjoy a brunch of muffins, pastries, fruit, hot drinks and fruit juice!
Led by an experienced team of education leaders and conservationists, we are based on the private Sandwich Bay estate and home to wetlands, woodland, grassland, dunes and beach!
