Mendelssohn - Finzi - Purcell - Kennedy

Join us for the third recital of our new Song Series in Winchester, showcasing the rising stars of solo vocal performance from around the UK. 

Lucinda Cox and Tom Jesty present a programme of music inspired by birdsong and breezes, with songs by Mendelssohn, Finzi and Purcell, alongside those of contemporary composer James Ottoway, and the world premiere of Piers Connor Kennedy's Nachtlied.



Lucinda Cox
Lucinda Cox read Music at Oxford, and completed postgraduate studies at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland. She began collaborating with pianist Tom Jesty during their time at University, and they have given recitals in Oxford, London and Winchester, as well as to online audiences during the pandemic.

Lucinda is a former Brighton Early Music Festival Young Artist, and was a finalist with Tom in the cancelled 2020 John Kerr Award for English Song. She has performed as a soloist at venues including Cadogan Hall, King’s Place, St George’s Bristol, Saffron Hall, Oxford’s Holywell Music Room, and the NOSPR Katowice Concert Hall in Poland, appearing with ensembles including the Villiers Quartet, the Monteverdi String Band, Orkiestra Historyczna, The Orchestra of Time and Truth, and the Hanover Band.

She has sung title roles in Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Handel’s Semele, Cyril Rootham’s Andromeda, Scarlatti's La Giuditta, and Cavalli's La Calisto, for Brighton Early Music Festival, Cantata Dramatica, and New Chamber Opera. Alongside her work as a soloist, Lucinda performs worldwide with ensembles including SANSARA, The Sixteen, the BBC Singers, Gabrieli Consort and London Voices. She is a member of the Choir of the Brompton Oratory dir. Patrick Russil, and studies in London with Gary Coward.

Tom Jesty - Accompanist in Residence & Song Series Co-Artistic Director
Tom is currently studying for a masters in piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. At the Guildhall Tom has played in recitals of Spanish song, music from the Great American Songbook, songs by contemporary composer Stephen Hough, and solo and vocal repertoire by Benjamin Britten. Tom has studied with Carole Presland, Hamish Milne, Ian Fountain, Pamela Lidiard, and Iain Burnside.

Tom is a former Head Quirister of Winchester College Chapel Choir and winner of BBC Radio 2 Choirboy of the Year. Prior to moving to London, Tom worked as a piano teacher and accompanist in Winchester, which included accompanying for the Wessex Solo Singers Courses, run by Lynton Atkinson, and the Cratoule Summer Singing School. He also accompanies for the Hampshire Youth Choirs, run by the Hampshire Music Service, and for the City Chamber Choir in London, directed by Stephen Jones.
