Miku and Tom present an eclectic mix of songs, ranging from the dazzling virtuosity of Händel’s Tornami a vagheggiar, to the sultry peace of Granados’ Mañanica Era, via the heady harmonic palette of Richard Strauss.

Miku Yasukawa comes from Tokushima in Japan and studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts before moving to the U.K. where she is an Artist Diploma student under the tutelage of Marilyn Rees. She has appeared extensively with Bach Collegium Japan including an European Tour, and is a frequent performer on the concert platform including sang Beethoven Symphony No.9 and Choral Fantasy, Carmina Burana, Messiah, St.Matthew Passion, Brahms German Requiem and Vivaldi Gloria. Miku recently sang the role of Norina in Don Pasquale with Hurn Court Opera to critical acclaim. Another recent highlight was performing Shéhérazade under the baton of Jonathan Nott with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in Suntory Hall and Muza Kawasaki.
Future engagements include Schubert Mass No.5 in A flat major with Bach Collegium Japan under the baton of the award winning conductor Masaaki Suzuki. Miku’s studies are generously supported by the Yonden Cultural Foundation, the Guildhall School Trust and the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs.
Tom Jesty - Accompanist in Residence & Song Series Co-Artistic Director
Tom is currently studying for a masters in piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. At the Guildhall Tom has played in recitals of Spanish song, music from the Great American Songbook, songs by contemporary composer Stephen Hough, and solo and vocal repertoire by Benjamin Britten. Tom is currently working on lesser-known repertoire by Russian composers Nikolai Roslavets and Arthur-Vincent Lourié under the tuition of Iain Burnside, as well as George Crumb’s Apparition, and a programme of German Lieder, for which he will receive coaching from Graham Johnson. Tom is currently studying with Pamela Lidiard.
Tom is a former Head Quirister of Winchester College Chapel Choir and winner of BBC Radio 2 Choirboy of the Year. Prior to moving to London, Tom worked as a piano teacher and accompanist in Winchester, which included accompanying for the Wessex Solo Singers Courses, run by Lynton Atkinson, and the Cratoule Summer Singing School. He also accompanies for the Hampshire Youth Choirs, run by the Hampshire Music Service, and for the City Chamber Choir in London, directed by Stephen Jones. As part of the latter’s concert in March, Tom will perform Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue for piano and strings.
