Webinar Overview:
In today’s digital age, social media and online communication are deeply embedded in the lives of children and young people, shaping their interactions, identities, and emotional experiences.
While much research regarding social media and online communication has focused on screen time, this approach can be oversimplified. It often overlooks important nuances, such as who young people are communicating with and how these interactions relate to their well-being.
Join us for this insightful FREE webinar, where we’ll explore a research study examining how children and young people navigate their ‘digital world’. By looking at the national primary and secondary school SHRN data, we’ll explore key aspects of social media use, including who children and young people are connecting with online, how often they interact, and how these factors are linked to their emotional well-being.
The study findings show that the impact of online communication on well-being varies depending on who children young people are engaging with. Instead of focusing solely on limiting screen time or viewing online communication as inherently negative, digital literacy education for children and young people can recognise the potential benefits of online interactions, especially with existing friendships.
This Webinar Will Explore:
- Insights from SHRN Data: Discover how both primary and secondary school SHRN data can offer a clearer picture of children and young people’s digital use and how this links to emotional well-being.
- Understanding Children and Young People’s ‘Digital Lives’: Gain a deeper understanding of how children and young people use the internet and social media platforms, especially in how they communicate and connect with others.
- SHRN Data to Inform Action and Policy: Learn how SHRN data can help inform future action planning, and influence policy development to ensure the well-being of children and young people in this constantly changing digital landscape.
